Brief History
|
In 1954, Ambassador Enrique P. Syquia – considered in various legal circles as a world-renowned expert and professor of International Law – began the Firm’s practice when he founded the Syquia Law Offices at the 3rd Floor of the Samanillo Building in Escolta, Manila, which was then the central business district of the Philippines. His practice thrived to such an extent that long before the dawning of globalization and computerization, Ambassador Syquia was already a lawyer of global stature, holding various positions in international law organizations and fellowships, and representing the Philippines in various legal conventions worldwide. Ambassador Syquia was Head of the Firm from 1954 until his passing away in 2005 – by then having established a successful specialization in International Law with a worldwide lawlisting. In 1985, Ambassador Syquia moved the Firm to Makati City, which was then rapidly becoming the new business center of the Philippines; and by April 2004, Ambassador Syquia decided to transform the Syquia Law Offices into a partnership with his two sons – Jose Tomas and Jose Luis – both of whom had, by then, established reputations for themselves serving the Philippine Government in the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Department of Budget and Management, respectively. Through the participation of Jose Tomas and Jose Luis, the Firm’s specialization broadened to cover securities and corporate law practice, and consultancies in public procurement and government contracts. |

The late Ambassador Dr. Enrique P. Syquia was a world-renowned expert and professor of International Law, a seasoned and successful law practitioner with impeccable integrity, and a perfect gentleman.
